16 May The Brightness of Belonging
As parents, we embark on a journey that is filled with wonder, love, and joy. But it can also be challenging and overwhelming, especially in a world that seems to value individualism over community.
As part of my Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, I’m reading Sebene Selassie’s book, “You Belong: A Call for Connection”.
Sebene reminds us of the importance of belonging and how it can bring light into our lives and the lives of our children.
Belonging is not just a personal journey, but a collective one. As parents, no matter where we’ve come from, we have the power to create an environment of inclusivity and connection, where all feel seen and valued.
By fostering a sense of belonging in our homes and in the Harvard-Westlake community, we can build a stronger, more compassionate future.
Through Selassie’s wise words, we learn that diversity and inclusivity are the keys to unlocking our fullest potential. By embracing our differences and appreciating the beauty and wisdom they bring, we tap into the richness of belonging.
As we cultivate a sense of belonging, we also create a space that supports our children’s growth and development. By nurturing a community of belonging, we provide our children with a safe and supportive environment to explore their identities and express their unique gifts and talents.
So let us celebrate the brightness of belonging, and let it guide us on our journey as parents. May we see the light in each other, and may it inspire us to create a more connected and compassionate community.
With love and light,
